The new era of the hair salon: greater strategy, enhanced experience, and increased professionalization.

The professional hairdressing sector in Spain is undergoing a profound transformation. According to a recent study by Stanpa – National Association of Perfumery and Cosmetics and the consultancy KEY-STONE Research and Consulting, a growing gap is emerging between self-employed salons and more structurally organized business models.

The current situation is characterized by tighter margins, rising operating costs, and a decrease in visit frequency. In addition, clients are more informed, digitalized, and demanding, seeking personalized experiences aligned with their values, such as sustainability and hair health.

In this context, growth is no longer measured by service volume, but by the added value offered. Since 2017, the average ticket has increased by +40%, reaching €33 in 2025, reflecting a trend toward higher-quality services and enhanced experiences.

However, this evolution has also created a dichotomy within the sector. One third of the market consists of single-professional salons, many of which face challenges such as retirement, burnout, or lack of generational succession. On the other hand, more professionalized salons are investing in digitalization, sustainability, marketing, and team training, with a clear medium-term growth vision.

One of the biggest challenges is the difficulty in finding and retaining qualified professionals, which limits the sector’s sustainable growth. Furthermore, the lack of training regulation and the need for versatile, digitally competent employees represent additional obstacles.

The client has also changed. They are no longer looking only for a good haircut or coloring service, but for a welcoming environment, professionalism, expert advice, and a comprehensive value proposition. Personalization, well-being, and sustainability have become fundamental pillars for building loyalty and differentiation.

In summary, professional hairdressing is entering a cycle of structural maturity where the speed of adaptation will determine whether businesses remain or disappear. The key lies in reviewing the business model, investing in talent and technology, and building a strong value proposition that combines technical expertise, advisory services, and customer experience.

At KIN Cosmetics, we understand that the future of hairdressing is based on delivering greater value. That is why we remain committed to supporting industry professionals on their path toward excellence, education, and innovation.
